Antique Sterling Silver Barrette 1940s Feather Fern Leaf Designer Signed
This sterling silver barrette is a very old and unusual hair fashion accessory. The fern leaf has exceptional detail, is solid sterling silver, and has a distinct Art Nouveau look. It is designer signed by Lang and dates from the late 1940s or early to mid 1950s. Lang was in business from about 1946 to 1977. I know this barrette is older than the early 1960s, because I have owned it since then.
The leaf is a medium design and was made for just a small gathering of hair. The leaf measures 2" long x 7/8" wide. You can get a better indication of size by looking at the photo of the barrette in my hand. The clasp or clip portion on the back is sterling silver as well and the back has the Lang Sterling cartouche.
This barrette is in excellent condition as I have not worn it once in the past 40 years or more. It is been lightly polished on the front only with a jewelers silver polishing cloth. The back retains the original old patina. The leaf is in excellent condition with no scratches or dings.
This is one very old barrette that is not only very unique, but Id be willing to bet that you or I will most likely never see another one like it !
