Antique Cameo Pin BIG Bakelite Casein Book or Picture Frame Brooch
If you desire one of the most exquisite old cameo brooches that was ever made, this rare picture frame or book style is a precious Victorian design.
This brooch was made in the early 1900's most likely between 1910 and 1930. The brooch is a very large presentation piece at 2 1/4" tall x 1 3/4" wide or 57 mm x 44 mm. You can get a better indication of the large size if you look at the photo of the brooch in my hand.
The cinnamon or sienna frame is Bakelite (positive test with Simichrome) and the molded domed Victorian cameo lady is ivory casein. The corners of the Bakelite frame are carved on downward angles in a rough texture that looks like tree bark or old leather bindings. The Victorian cameo lady is dressed with fancy flowers in her hair and around her neck line.
The cameo is very thick, or deep front to back, and the mold work is boldly domed. The entire brooch, both front and back, is in superb well cared for condition. The brooch is microscopically clean and there are no imperfections or flaws. There are no scratches, scuffs, dings, or chips on the Bakelite or the cameo. Unsigned, the back has the original old C clasp that is drill set and glued in place.
