Hattie Carnegie Jewelry Vintage Elephant Pin Egyptian Revival Pendant
Of all the grand vintage elephant brooches ever made, this Hattie Carnegie Egyptian revival brooch is one of her most notorious and eagerly sought after designs. This brooch also has a bail and a long gold plated chain so it can be worn as a pendant.
This very ornate elephant is made of thickly cast gold plated brass. The brass is textured and beaded all over and the thick layered design is very 3D. This elephant is durable and rather weighty and will stand up to the test of time. The dramatic Egyptian Revival motif is heavily laden with carved plastic cabs that look like scarabs and gemstones in vibrant hues of coral orange, coral pink, lapis blue, and blue and green turquoise. The tusk and the toes are ivory white molded plastic.
Some of these Hattie elephant brooches are signed, but most were just sold with a paper hang tag. Unsigned, this large elephant is an impressive presentation piece at 2 3/8" wide x 2 1/4" tall or 60 mm x 55 mm. The gold chain is 24" or 61 cm long. You can get a better indication of the size by viewing the photo of the elephant in my hand.
The entire brooch is in pristine microscopically clean condition with no imperfections or signs of wear. All of the beads are present and in great condition with no scratches or scuffs. The gold is perfectly clean as well with no lint or dirt in the recessed areas and definitely no grime or verdigris. The back has the original fine working safety clasp and secure bar pin.
