Oriental Gold Vintage Coasters w Birds 1950s Vintage House Wares
This set of six Oriental gold bird and flower coasters is a set that is very uncommon to find today. The set was made in the 1955-1965 era and the set is still in the original box and never used.
I have a set of 4 of these coasters myself. Recently, I came upon this set by way of a friend; an 84 year old lady in Boone, NC who had the set of six stashed away for many decades. I immediately wanted to keep the set for myself but as I already have a set of 4 , I thought it would be best to share.
You would think that with the satin gold finish on these coasters that they might not wear well. However, the set I have I have used on my night stands in my bedroom and every night for the past 10 years there has been a glass of water on them and they show little to no wear.
These coasters are cork backed. There are three different designs, 2 of each, of birds, flowers and Japanese letters. The coasters are not hand painted. They are silk screened in vibrant full colors. The original box does not have a bar code, so you know it is old. The side of the box reads " A Product of the Metal Box Company Limited - Made in England."
All of the coasters are in excellent like new unused condition. There is one that has some minor specks of gold wear as it was probably stuck to another coaster in the box over the decades. It is barely noticeable as I have touched up the specks with metallic gold paint.
