This unusual old sail fish brooch is a very unusual piece. It dates from the late 1940's or early 1950's and is made of gold stamped metal with detailed lines in all the fins. The body is a fine brushed finish that adds nice texture. The dorsal fin, tail fin and anal fin are painted in flat turquoise enamels.
You might ask, why was this pin made and who wore it? It was made for men actually to be worn on a hat or necktie. It was kind of a Ernest Hemingway thing, to be marked as a big game sportfisherman as he was.
The brooch is 3" long x 1 1/4" tall and is not signed. It is in excellent condition with no wear and has the original fine working safety clasp on the back.
Comes gift wrapped and shipped in a new presentation jewelry box.
