1862-1880 H&C Staffordshire Oriental Plate Polychrome Chinoiserie
# 15388

I adore the colors of this very old Oriental plate. The Famille Rose palette is elegant, intentionally muted, and has nice harmony with this motif. Notice that the scene is painted in black outline; not blue. The black designs are of the earliest designs.
This 7 1/8" English-Oriental polychrome Chinoiserie bone china side plate bears the Staffordshire Chinese Pattern Hope & Carter mark, which dates to 1862-1880.
It has been stored away in my hutch cabinet for over 40 yrs and never used.
The entire plate is in very exceptional and very clean condition for age. The polychrome paints are perfect with no wear or lack of luster. The clear luster finish on both the front and the back is very nice as well.
If you hold the plate to a right angle, some microscopic light scratches in the clear coat can be seen around the center area. The plate has some areas of light crazing and light foxing; as should be expected. There are no chips, cracks, or repairs. The edge of the plate has some very light roughness in one spot from resting upright in place in the grove in the hutch cabinet. In that area there is crazing in the clear coat the most.
