This brooch is not signed but it is clearly an old Eisenberg design, denoted by the unique faceted bell shaped crystals and the very large crystals as well. The is a weighty, captivating, big sparkling creation that will almost fill the palm of your hand.
This open work and slightly domed design is 2" long x 1 3/4" tall, or 5 cm x 4.5 cm. The chatons are 13 mm (or about the size of a US dime) and the oval crystal at the center is 19 mm long.
The crystals have incredible brilliance because they are old Bohemian or Austrian lead crystals. They are not super brilliant clear and have an intentional slight grey tint as they were made to look like old diamonds. All of the crystals have brilliant sparkle with no scratches, chips, scuffs, or cloudiness. Under certain lighting, the oval crystal at the center and bell shaped crystals at the corners may appear to have a light golden or light grey cast because these crystals are mold faceted and the facets contrast with the boldly cut chatons. The chatons are diamond machine cut.
The brooch is made of silver rhodium metal and all of the crystals are prong set. Partial areas of the silver rhodium on the back of the brooch have a dark patina from age. There is one slight imperfection that is not noticeable unless you inspect the brooch closely. One of the bell shaped crystals has a missing corner prong. I have taken extra precaution to insure that the stone is securely set and will not come out. It has been professionally reset.
The crystals are all sparkling clean, microscopically clean and brilliant even under a magnifying glass. There is no grease or grime, or even a speck of dust anywhere. The back has the original fine working safety clasp and some light metal wear from normal handling.
This brooch is an exceedingly rare find. Most of the old Eisenberg designs incorporate florals or ribbons with a fancy formal look, unlike this brooch, that has an old European look.
