1940s French Pink n Orange Glass Necklace w Earrings Set
# 10483
$195.00
These rare glass beads are not Czech, Bohemian or Murano.
They are Gripoix French glass beads mixed with Austrian crystals from the 1920-1930 era or possibly the early 1940s.
This fascinating long, statement flapper has absolutely savage colors of coral orange and opalescent light pink! The odd and unique faceted button crystals have a polished finish that throws purple hues of color. (It is not the same as the Aurora Borealis finish used on rhinestones in the 1950s and later. This earlier polishing technique on glass involved acid etching.)
This is a very long 54" flapper necklace and the earrings are the original matching earrings. Look at the old brass backs with the ruffled rims: that style was predominately made in the 1920s and 1930s.
More about the glass:
French glass is very different from other types of glass. The pink beads have glowing opalescent quality. Some of the beads are baroque ovals, and some are 6 mm rounds with swirled canes.
The very unusual coral orange box beads have five sides. Three sides are flat with beveled edges and two sides are faceted in pyramids. These beads also have an amazing glowing effect as they are crackle glass with a acid polished finish. The spacer beads are clear Austrian bicone crystals, clear heishis, and fuchsia pink faceted flat wafers. Too many beads to talk about!!
My photos nor my description truly do not do this Parure justice! French glass is something you can only love when you hold it in your hands and wear it.
The matching earrings are clips and are 1" wide. The beads on the earrings are wired and the backs are solid brass, with the original old brass patina. The clips are strong with tight snap. Both necklace and earrings are in excelelnt clean and very well cared for condition with no chips, cracks or repairs.
The set is not signed.
The truth is, this set has been professionally protected and stored away in my jewelry collection for over 40 years and has not been worn. There are only microscopic hints of wear from gentle handling.
Comes gift wrapped and shipped in new presentation jewelry.
