This 1940s brooch is exquisite old world quality from the Bohemian region. Intaglio means carved or inscribed however in this case, this brooch is reverse intaglio meaning it is carved on the back side of the crystal.

The crystal is thick and weighty with a high lead content as it is old German crystal of incredible sparkle. The intaglio violet and leaf design is hand painted in dark purple, deep leaf green, and yellow matt enamels on the reverse side. The perimeter of the brooch is beveled in elongated triangles and the facets are hand polished. The crystal is set in a fine quality gold filled bezel with tiny saw tooth settings all the way around.

The brooch is medium in size at 1 5/8" tall x 1 1/4" wide or 42 mm x 30 mm. The entire brooch is in spectacular condition with no wear or imperfections. The crystal is perfect with no scratches, scuffs, or chips and there is no gold wear anywhere. The entire brooch is microscopically clean and bright. Unsigned, the back has the original fine working safety clasp.
