I purchased this pin in the Lancaster, PA region about 40 years ago at an estate sale. I admired it because dogwood jewelry used to be very popular in the 1940s and 1950s and its rarely found anymore. Also, because I love all wood vintage jewelry and have always collected nice pieces.
This Folk Art flower is a very dimensional and was hand carved from weighty walnut wood. Look at the serrated edges of the leaves and you can see very fine detail in the carving. The flower is painted in white enamel and one petal might look incomplete, but it is just the way it was carved. The white enamel paint is old and shows a little bit of age wear, but the rest of the enamels are perfect.
This pin dates from the 1940-1950 era and is in very fine condition with no weak points, cracks, or chips. The pin has the original fine working safety clasp and is was artisan made and is not signed. It is medium size at 2 1/4" long x 1 3/8 wide.
Comes gift wrapped and shipped in a new presentation jewelry box.
