Out of the thousands of vintage jewelry items Ive collected over the past 50 years, this unique Bohemian style necklace is by far my very favorite. I'm a very serious old vintage bead hound!

Some of the most unique blown glass bead necklaces ever made were made in Japan in the 1955-1965 era. It is important to note that necklaces like this are valuable collectors items as today. Japanese factories that employ glass lamp workers are extinct.

In the 1950's and 1960s, Japanese lamp workers made unique mouth blown glass beads that imitated old bead styles from Italy, France, and the Bohemia region. The world's most notorious expert on glass beads, Sybylle Jargstorf, would've had a heart attack over this necklace.

This 3-strand glass necklace has 5 different types of blown glass beads. The large tortoise glass focal beads are olive shapes. Half of the beads are translucent with white zigzag canes and opaque cinnamon brown pulled canes.

The focal beads are separated by small emerald glass rounds. Two strands on the necklace are composed of barrel shaped blown glass beads in translucent tortoise glass and opaque flesh glass.

All of these beads are crimped on the exterior from a lamp workers crimp tool, adding Bohemia style texture to the design. All of the beads on the whole necklace are spaced with silver ball beads or gold lined glass seed beads so none of the larger beads rub against each other.

It may not sound difficult, but beads like this were very difficult to make.

The necklace has the original matching bead extension chain and can be hooked up to 15 1/2" or 40 cm long. The olive shaped tortoise beads are 7/8" or 23 mm long. The rest of the beads range in size from 5 mm to 9 mm.

This necklace is not heavy to wear and all of the beads are in superb microscopically clean condition. The whole necklace is in very well cared for vintage condition. The hook is signed Japan.

The truth is, the necklace has been professionally protected and stored away in my jewelry collection for over 30 years and has not been worn.
