To me, as an antique and vintage jewelry collector, this exceptional retro vintage necklace is like The Clash of the Titans. It reflects so many eras it is hard to call it just one style. This is a copper enamel necklace that was made in the 1950-1960 era. For that reason, the necklace is Mid Century Modern.
Typically, copper enamel necklaces from this era were modern or atomic shapes and the enamels were normally marbled or swirled. Yet, the rose and flower basket motif is an antique Art Nouveau style. Art Nouveau made a comeback in the mid to late 1960s. For these reasons this necklace is unique. It was made during the height of the Mid Century Copper Enamel period, but the style and motif is a throwback to the Art Nouveau era.
The necklace has a whopping 16 trapezoid copper enamel panels; 9 have floral motifs. The background enamel is bright white with a snowy texture.
All of the panels are joined with strong silver metal links (could be sterling or sterling plated). The back of the necklace is just as fascinating as the enamel is finished in black and white speckle patterns.
When clasped, the necklace is 17 " or 43 cm long. The largest panel at center is 1 3/8" or 35 mm wide.
The entire necklace is in pristine clean condition with no imperfections or flaws. There are no scratches, chips, or signs of wear. If you look microscopically at a couple of the panel, there are 2 or 3 that have very small edge wear on a corner where you can see the copper shining thru. You have to look at it with a magnifying glass to find them. The original spring clasp is in perfect working order.
If the necklace is not long enough for you can add a silver metal extension chain by checking the option box.
The extension chain is 4" so the necklace could be hooked anywhere between 17" and 21".
Comes gift wrapped and shipped in new luxury presentation necklace box.
