This glowing big bead necklace is a very unique creation that was made in the 1960-1970 era. The necklace is shimmering and alive with Turquoise, silver, and Camphor Lucite.
Camphor Lucite is of the most highly valued vintage Lucite to find. It looks like frosted glass or ice. Now, some 50 years later, this technique of frosted glass or frosted acrylic beads is also being called Mermaid Glass or Mermaid Beads.
There are many graduated sizes of round Camphor Lucite beads. The wafer disk beads are both Camphor Lucite and silver metal. The large, ribbed melon beads look like porcelain. They are hand-painted Lucite in two shades of turquoise (on each bead) with silver veins. All of the beads are spaced with silver metal ball beads so none of the larger beads rub against each other.
The necklace looks bulky but it is not heavy to wear. Finished with a silver metal spring clasp, the necklace is 30 " or 76 cm long overall. The largest turquoise beads are 1" or 25 mm wide. The round Camphor Lucite beads range in size from 10 mm to 18 mm.
The entire necklace is in microscopically clean condition. I have owned it since it was new and it has been safely stored away and never worn. Some of the smaller Camphor Lucite beads have some light wear and some of the tiny silver metal ball beads have a light patina from age.
