These handmade seed beads Dream Catcher earrings came from the Cherokee Indian Reservation in Cherokee, NC. I purchased them in the mid 1980s from a very young, artistic, Indian girl made 12 or 13 years old who made them in front of me. She had a vivid imagination for design and color.

I like telling this story because it was a point in time in my life when I was saying so long to old childhood memories. I went there in 1979 to see how the Cherokee reservation was doing because the last time I was there was in the late 1960s when I was just a kid. As a kid, the area made a big impression on me and the way the Cherokee people lived.

I watched this young Cherokee girl patiently and quietly make these earrings. I wondered what she was thinking when she made this very pretty dream catcher design. I'm sure she'd done it many times before because her nimble fingers made the patterns effortlessly.

I paid her twice the price she was asking when she finished. I remember telling her I would cherish them forever. She didn't know the reason I came, or that I was about to embark to go to sea for 5 years in the merchant marines. I, wanted the memory.

The round medallion is a network of small flowers and the beads of turquoise, cobalt, and light pink. The turquoise beads have a matt finish and the pink and cobalt beads are shiny pearlescent beads. As a bead hound myself, they are very unique old glass seed beads.

The earrings are for pierced ears and with the silver metal ear wires, they hang down 4 " long.

All of the beads are strung on wire, not cotton cord. Both earrings are in pristine microscopically clean condition and have never been worn. All of the beads are in perfect condition. Truth is, these earrings have been stored away in my jewelry collection for over 40 years and have never been worn.
