This unusual, big, porcelain scarab brooch is a very unique handmade piece that was handmade in the 1940-1950 era. The scarab was mold made with deep recessed mold lines and the body is glazed in thick glossy colors of emerald, light blue, and turquoise. The color of these glazes reminds me of the colors that were also used by Hull pottery at that time.
Ive always been very intrigued by this piece because as a collector, I wonder why certain designs were made. But as far as this big scarab beetle goes, your guess is as good as mine!
The pin is a bold presentation piece at 2 1/2" long x 1 1/4" wide. It is very thick and heavy as well. The glazes are in perfect glossy condition with no scratches and the ceramic is perfect with no chips or cracks. The back shows some signs of age just from handling. I cant be certain if the safety clasp closure is original to the brooch but it looks to be. The scarab is not signed but was certainly handmade and could be one of a kind.
Comes gift wrapped and shipped in a new presentation jewelry box.
* You can add a silver or gold brooch slider to convert this pin to a pendant by checking the option box.
