These very old sea shell parakeet bird earrings are petite and delicate. They are a very uncommon pair that was made in Japan in the 1950s or 60s.
The head of each bird is made of a type of shell called a zebra snail, and the black lines are natural. The black eye is painted. The bodies are made of tiny operculum shells that are dyed bright lime green and lemon yellow. The birds have tiny yellow shell beaks and rhinestone collars.
The earrings are clips and each earring measures 1" long, not including the thin tail feathers, which are tiny shells as well. The earrings are in pristine condition with no imperfections. No missing or damaged shells; they appear to have never been worn. They are not signed but I am certain of their origin. These earrings are very delicate and should be handled with care.
