Made in the 1960s, this illusive butterfly pin is made of carved pink conch shell. It is illusive because this exact style of butterfly pin was made in several different mediums including jade and abalone but the carved pink conch shell designs are the hardest to find today.
The pin is made of gold metal and I love the way the metal was made to fit the carved shell wings. This pin, and all others like it, were never signed and it drives me crazy that I cant tell you if they were made in Korea, Japan, or Hong Kong - but it was one of the three. I tend to lean towards early Hong Kong because of the availability of conch shells in that region (and for several other reasons).
Medium petite in size, the butterfly is 1 5/8" long x 1" tall or 42 mm x 26 mm. The entire pin is in pristine clean like new condition with no imperfections or flaws. There is no gold metal wear or loss of silver. The pink conch shells are flawless with no scratches, chips, or cracks. The back has the original fine working safety clasp and the pin is not signed.
Comes gift wrapped and shipped in new presentation jewelry box.
You can wear this pin as a pendant with the addition of a gold metal brooch slider which you can add by checking the option box.
