Old Spider Web theme brooches are a very rare find. There were a few styles made in the 1950's, and they were a throwback to the Art Nouveau error of devil like jewelry. The limited production of these designs also coincides with Halloween, when in the 1950's, this occasion was becoming more popular as costume parties gained momentum. Remember at that time, there were no mass-produced costumes or decorations and Halloween theme items- all of them- first started in the manufacturing of costume jewelry.
This old pot metal spider web brooch is black Japanned pot metal. The branching webs are convex and tiered giving this piece a nice 3D effect. Some of the metal bars are twisted metal, and some are flat. The three oval and convex stones in the center are black glass. The brooch also has a flared ribbon of black rhinestone chatons.
The brooch is 1 3/4" wide and is all original with all stones present and in fine condition. The brooch has the original fine working safety clasp on the back and is not signed. There is some light wear to the black enamel on the back only.
Comes gift wrapped and shipped in a new presentation jewelry box.
You can add a gold or silver brooch slider to convert this pin to a pendant by checking the option box.
