There are two distinct times when Marcasite sterling silver jewelry was made that impresses me as a jewelry collector of such. Of course, during the Art Deco & Art Nouveau period, there were unique sterling silver Marcasite jewelry designs. The other period is a time in history that should be noted as well.
Siam jewelry made in Thailand was made for hundreds of years by skilled artisans but sometime in the 1950s, the craft and export of Siam sterling jewelry completely died. Most Siam jewelry artisans simply went out of business, seeking alternative better paying jobs. A few of the large firms that stayed in business began commissioning sterling marcasite jewelry for export in the 1970s and 1980s. They still make sterling Marcasite jewelry today, but the quality is nothing like what was made in the 1970-1980 period.
This sterling silver Marcasite bouquet brooch is a perfect example of premium quality designs that were made in the 1970-1980 period in Thailand. The impressive sparkling nature of this piece is accomplished by precise placement of faceted Marcasites on the flowers and leaves, complimented with a raised beaded texture in the sterling that enhances the sparkle.
Each flower is also centered with a faceted clear crystal of diamond like brilliance. But, dont miss the pair of flower stems as they are channel set with square cut faceted Marcasites, and this is a very unique attribute. It is exhilarating to me, as it is very uncommon to find square cut Marcasites on any vintage Marcasite jewelry.
Signed Thailand 925, this flower bouquet is an impressive medium large presentation piece at 2 5/8" tall x 2" wide or 65 mm x 50 mm. The entire brooch is in superb like new condition and is microscopically clean all around. All of the Marcasites and crystals are original and present with no imperfections. There are no imperfections to the sterling such as scratches, scuffs, or dings. The back of the brooch has the original fine working sterling safety clasp and sterling bar pin.
