This elaborate cast metal Foo Dog incense burner was made in Japan in the 1920-1930 era. This style was made later, for several decades, however the older designs like this one were made of heavy nickle metal, not pewter or brass. This mold design also has more intricate detail than pieces that were made in later decades.
There are two dragons in relief on the sides and two circles of Greek keys on the lip and that top of the base.
It measures 3 3/4" tall x 2 1/8" wide. Both base and lid retain the original patina and there are no dents or scratches to the metal. The inside has been lightly used for incense. The bottom is signed Made in Japan.
