Instantly recognizable gorgeous Eastlake Victorian chair in deep red velvet!
Made in the 1870-1890 era, this very exceptional antique chair is a vanity chair but also sometimes called a child's chair or a side chair.
This chair is not a reproduction. It is made of solid walnut. The wood is all original with no broken or missing pieces. At some point the deep red velvet was replaced but it is antique fabric with matching lace style trim. Both the front and the back of the chair and the seat is covered in velvet.
The chair is in excellent clean condition for age with no fabric tears, stains, holes, or discoloration. All of the ornate wood detail is intact. The wood has a deep walnut stain and a hand waxed finish. There are some light wood blemishes and edge wear commensurate with age and well cared for condition.
The chair is 35" tall x 19" wide. The seat is elevated 17" off the ground (noting that it is a stool sized or vanity chair).
The chair is strong and the rungs and side arms are solid with no movement or looseness. The batting might be original wool or cotton. The chair seat has some give or flex. The black fabric cover on the bottom of the chair appears to have been replaced at some point and is stapled in place. I have not removed the bottom cover so Im purely speculating if the batting is original or not.
