This unique pewter stein is signed Made in Holland with the makers hallmark KDM, or Royal Holland Pewter.
I know for certain this piece has been in my family since the 1960s but I believe it was made in the 1940s.
The craftsmanship and style of this stein is superb Mid Century Modern and the lid and hinge are expertly precision crafted.
Now, I may not be 100% correct about this, but I believe pewter steins in all of Europe changed in preferable shape by manufacturers sometime in the 1960s - when the bulbous style faded out and an easier to make, straight cylinder stein dominated. Im not an expert in this field but I inherited a lot of steins from my German relatives. And so, this stein has been kept in my family's butch cabinet for the better part of 60 years.
It measures 8 1/4" tall x 5" wide across the widest point. It is in excellent clean like new condition and has never been used. The smooth exterior is blemish free with no stains, dings, cracks, or repairs. Under serious close inspection, some very light and very small scratches are detectable from gentle handling over time.
