Art Modern Black n White Glass Brooch Artist Made Jewelry


Something I have been reluctant to reveal about where I live is that over the decades I have found many one of a kind Modern Art glass brooches in this region, and there is a reason.

Up and down the spine of the Appalachian mountains there are many liberal arts colleges and a lot of trade schools for glass blowing, pottery, metal work, and sculpture. Im always amazed however, when a Modern Art glass brooch turns up in my hand because I know it is one of a kind and was not mass produced. The brooch tells a story of a student or artist who set out to make something unique and by some twist of fate, lost possession of it or sold it. Years from now someone will see the photo of the brooch in Google images and say, " I made that brooch" or " I know who made that brooch" !

The aspect I like most about this brooch, besides the large size, is the geometric representation of black and white. It sets of Art Deco and Retro 1980's bells in my head. This large brooch begins with a geometric shape of black stained glass in a silver solder frame. The solder work is nice and not sloppy. The geometric objects on top are ceramic or glass and the copper looped wire is soldered in place. There is a gold metal ribbed bead and a white Givre' glass ribbed bead on the wire.

Large in size, the brooch is 2 3/4" or 70 mm long x 2 1/4" or 57 mm tall.

The entire brooch is in pristine clean like new condition with no imperfections or flaws. There are no chips, cracks, scratches, or signs of wear. The back has the original fine working safety clasp pin mechanism. The brooch is not signed.
