Ashworth English Bowl Flying Bird Transferware Cir 1890
I love this old English ironstone transferware bowl because it was made in full color. This beautiful bird and garden pattern is called Flying Bird and was made by Ashworth, circa 1890's.
This beautiful intricate full color pattern is on a white background in the form of a shallow bowl. The bowl is 7 1/2" or 19 cm wide.
The bowl is in excellent condition for age with no obvious signs of wear such as fading or wear to the pattern or glaze. The bowl is exceptionally clean and bright. There are no cracks or crazing. If you hold the bowl to a right angle under light, you can detect some very small and fine scratches on the inside bottom. The rim of the bowl is a honey orange color that has moderate to heavy paint wear. On the lower edge of the rim, there is one very tiny flake or chip. There is also a hairline crack in the glaze only on the bottom that is very hard to see.
The bowl has signs of wear commensurate with age but the overall condition is excellent for age. The bowl is signed on the bottom with the Ashworth Bros. crown mark and the pattern number 9461.
