Bohemian Black Glass Brooch Carved Gold Star 1950s Jewelry
Although this unique vintage brooch is not signed I can tell you a good deal about it.
The brooch was made in the US in the 1950s but the carved black glass medallion was imported from the Czech/Bohemian region. It is not a type of glass you see often. It is a type of glass was made in the Bohemia region as far back as the mid 1800's. It mimics gold aventurine designs that were also being made in Italy.
The black glass cab is machine cut in a brilliant star design with a star in relief at center. The recessed area is pierced metal that resembles the glistening look of marcasites, treated in bright yellow gold. The gold plating is real gold that is probably 22 kt. The wide ribbon style frames is a open work design and is gold plated as well but the gold is a lower grade than the medallion.
Medium in size, the brooch is 1 5/8" long x 1 3/8" wide or 40 mm x 35 mm.
The entire brooch is in pristine clean like new condition with no imperfections or flaws. There is no loss of gold or gold wear and the black glass medallion is perfect with no scratches, chips, or signs of wear. The back of the brooch is like new as well and the original fine working safety clasp is in place.
Comes gift wrapped and shipped in new presentation brooch box.
* This brooch can also be worn as pendant with the addition of a gold metal brooch slider which you can add by checking the box below the description table. Please note that the pin attachment on the back of the brooch is set slightly crooked but I have tried the slider on the brooch and the brooch will hang perfectly straight and vertical.
