Staffordshire Plate Polychrome Oriental Chinoiserie H&C 1862-1880
In my living room, dining room, and master bedroom, I have large glass showcases with collections of antique and vintage wares I have owned for several decades. Some of the showcases are wall to wall and today, at my age, it is time to part with some of these cherished items. I only mention the showcases because this it where all of my collectibles have been stored, protected from sunlight, dust, and dirt. Everything has never been touched except for cleaning and all items are perfectly clean.
This 7 1/8" English-Oriental polychrome Chinoiserie bone china side plate bears the Staffordshire Chinese Pattern Hope & Carter mark, which dates to 1862-1880. The entire plate is in very fine condition and the bright polychrome paints are perfect with no wear or lack of luster. The clear luster finish on both the front and the back are perfect as well with no scratches or scuffs overall.
If you hold the plate to a right angle, some microscopic light scratches in the clear coat can be seen around the center area. The plate has some areas of light crazing and light foxing; as should be expected. There are no chips, scratches, scuffs, or repairs. The edge of the plate has some very light roughness in one spot from resting upright in place in the plate grove in the hutch.
