SUPERB Modernist Copper Enamel Earrings 1970s Retro Jewelry (16908)

SUPERB Modernist Copper Enamel Earrings 1970s Retro Jewelry

It is very uncommon to find a pair of vintage earrings like these!

Based on the type of enamels used, these large Modern Art pierced earrings were made in the 1970s. They are artist made and were not mass produced. A few years ago, I had a pair of earrings that were made by the same artist. Neither pair of the earrings are signed but the style of enamel work is exactly the same. You can see a picture of the other pair of earrings below, which have been sold. A photo of the earrings below was given to Kathy Flood, by me, and they appear in her book, Warmans Fine & Costume Jewelry 4th Ed., pg. 120.

In my 30+ years of collecting vintage jewelry I have never seen other earrings like these two pairs. Notice how both pairs have the same speckled backs. Also notice how the enamels on both pairs appear to have been stencil sprayed with a little bit of over spray.

These Modern Art pierced earrings are large amorphous shapes in back and yellow/gold enamel. The amorphous copper shapes are not completely flat; one is slightly concave and one is slightly convex.

Large in size but light weight to wear, the earrings are 2 1/2" or 38 mm long x 1 1/2" or 64 mm wide across the middle.

The pair is in pristine clean condition with no major imperfections like scratches, chips, or missing enamel. The earrings do have some light signs of gentle handling and the yellow enamel on one earring has some crazing that cant be felt. The ear studs are brand new and never worn. The earrings are not signed. Who made these earrings is a great mystery!

Comes gift wrapped and shipped in a new presentation earring box.

This pair sold for $75 several years ago
