1980s Vintage Pierced Earrings Modern Escher Art Mother of Pearl
# 14244
$34.95
In the early 1980s, I was in the US merchant marines on a supertanker. Somewhere in my travels, either in Japan or Hong Kong, I bought these earrings. Not only am I big Escher art fan, but I also love everything that's mother of pearl.
The shells are silk screened printed in a modern Escher inspired design in metallic jewel tone colors of bright red, lime, lemon, bright blue, and black and sealed in a gloss clear coat. The shell is thick and durable and somewhat weighty to wear, but not heavy. The earrings are made for pierced ears.
With the silver metal ear wires, they hang down 2 3/4" or 6.9 cm long. The disks are 2" or 5 cm wide. The backs of the earrings are natural Mother of Pearl shells with no prints.
After a few months at sea, there were metal boxes in my duffle bags full of jewelry I'd purchased. Against my will, sometimes men would try grab my bags and help me down the gang way and they'd always say, "What in the world do you have in these bags? Rocks?" I'd say, Yeah. Rocks. I'm a big rock collector :) It wasn't against the law or anything. I just didn't want anyone to know I was hoarding jewelry abroad.
The earrings are new and never worn; pristine clean like new condition. Safely stashed away in my collection all these years.
Comes gift wrapped and shipped in a new presentation jewelry box. ~
* I only have one pair of these. I only bought 2 pairs, and I do have the other pair listed here as well. The Escher design is a little bit different.
