Hofbauer Byrdes Highly Collectible Crystal Bird Box #169130
Hofbauer Byrdes is on the list of the top 12 collectible crystal patterns being eagerly sought and collected.
Hofbauer began producing its crystal in the late 1970’s to early 1980’s and advertised that it was “Fashioned by the finest craftsmen of West Germany” and was “hand-cut, acid polished and containing over 24% lead for crystal clarity and superb ring. The factory burned down in the mid 1990s and production was not resumed by Hofbauer.
This large lidded crystal box has deep ridges and facets on all sides including the bottom. The lid has two satin etched love birds or doves.
This box is 6 ¼” long x 4 ¼” wide x 3” tall.
Ive had this box stashed away for several decades. It is one of the heaviest lead crystal boxes Ive ever come across.
The box weighs 2 lbs 9 oz, or about 2 ½ pounds.
A bowling ball is about 10 pounds.
This box is a quarter of the weight of a bowling ball, in a box that is the size of a half a loaf of zucchini bread – that’s the best way I can compare it. Or, slightly large than the size of a pound of butter.
The box is in pristine clean like new condition with no cracks or scratches. There is a small chip on the underside of the lid that is very hidden and cant really be seen unless you run your finger around the underside of the lid. The box is not signed as all Hofbauer crystal was not signed.
