North Carolina Pottery Lidded Compote Blue Drip Glaze Stoneware Med #15647
Over the past 30 years, I have collected nice pieces of North Carolina pottery my by different potters. I've always admired the blue glaze stoneware pieces for utilitarian purposes in my home and office.
My pottery collection now numbers over 300 pieces, of all types of pottery, so it is time for me to offer some of my pottery for sale. Im surprised that there are hardly any pieces that I can find, of pottery like this for sale online. Stoneware pottery should be common place to find here in NC but nowadays, I don't find pieces like these often anymore.
This lidded compote is made of thick white porcelain and the blue drip glaze finish is very unique and uncommon. The compote is ovid or bulbous in shape. The compote is not signed but the rope style finial on the lid might serve as a clue as to who made this piece. I know it was made in NC and it might be Seagrove, or some of the other potters on the coastal area. Another indication of the maker could also be the unique swirl glaze finish on the bottom.
Medium petite in size, the compote is 4 1/4" tall x 3 3/8 " wide or 105 mm x 85 mm. The base and the lid are both in pristine clean like new condition with no imperfections or flaws. There are no chips, scratches, or cracks.
