Made in the Far East in the 1920-1930 era, this exceptional hand carved lady face pendant was hand made. It was not mass produced and is most likely one of a kind. The lady is made of genuine Tortoise shell with engraved Oriental details on top. The face is hand carved Mother of Pearl.

The tortoise shell is a double layer with front and back sections laminated together. The Mother of Pearl is not sandwiched between the two tortoise shell layers. The tortoise shell area on the front is carved in a tear drop shape. The MOP lady face is precisely carved to match the curve of the back layer of Tortoise shell. Looking at the top or front, this creates a flat plane that is half Mother of Pearl and half Tortoise shell.  

The front of the pendant is slightly domed. The bail is hand carved tortoise shell; not applied, but a hand carved part out of the back tortoise layer. 

Medium in size, the pendant is 1 5/8" long x 1 1/8" tall or 41 mm x 28 mm. The pendant comes with a new antiqued silver metal necklace chain 24" or 61 cm long. The pendant is in pristine clean condition with no imperfections or flaws. There are no scratches, chips, or cracks front or back. The pendant is not signed.
