Ive owned this basket since the 1960s. Before that it was in my grandmothers house since the mid 1940s.

My grandmother lived on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. I was told she bought it on a trip to Amish country near Lancaster, PA during or at the end of WWII. I believe the only reason she had to go to that area was if her husband, my grandfather, was in port in Philadelphia in the Navy during the war.

This in a very unique, and most likely one of a kind, almost antique cake basket. It is made solely of willow and dyed mahogany brown. Notice the two oval braided circles, braided rim, and the hand carved wooden beads. The beads are large or about the size of a cherry tomato. The bottom also has a frame so the basket sits flat.

I've had this basket stored away for many decades to preserve its integrity. There are some very minor imperfections but nothing that deters the value. There's no signs of heavy wear or damage and no missing canes.  In one spot on the outside braided rim, there are 2 canes that were once braided under. I have not attempted to braid them back to avoid breaking them off. I did however lightly touch them with clear glue to keep them in place. There are some very small light spots of dye wear, hardly worth noting.

The basket is large at 10" tall with the handle. It is 16" long x 10 1/2" wide.
