When this brooch was made in the 1950's, big Ruby Red brooches were considered a must have for every new-age woman. Today, when one ponders what colors this brooch would look great on : Just about every color is suitable including gold, silver, black, brown, grey, white, navy, and even purple. In the 1950's however, a brooch like this was worn predominantly on red coats and jackets. Yes : Red on Red ! 

This stunning stacked and layered radiating medallion has a whopping 6 layers of big AB and plain rhinestones, bright red Navette crystals, a gold filigree circle, and polished gold metal hoops at the middle. The red rhinestones are fire polished, but not AB, and are deep ruby red. (In my photos, they may appear to look black as the red is a deep garnet red.) The large AB rhinestones around the bottom are ruby red with a flashed silver AB finish. The smaller AB rhinestones at the top have a flashed silver/blue AB finish. 

The brooch is made of gold plated metal and all of the crystals and rhinestones are prong set. At first look, you might think this brooch was made by Delizza & Elster in light of the design and color. One quick look at the back, and I can assure you this impressive Ruby Red glitzy brooch was made in West Germany or Austria. The brooch is not signed however the classic rhinestone V-cup settings, the radial flat arms, and the V shaped pin back are early to mid 1950's Bohemian jewelry construction. 

This sizzling red creation is impressive in size at 2 1/4" or 5.7 cm wide. The larger rhinestones are 9 mm. You can get a better indication of the size by viewing the photo of the brooch in my hand. 

The entire brooch is in sensational pristine clean like new condition. All of the crystals and rhinestones are original, present, and brilliant. There is no gold wear or loss of gold metal anywhere on the brooch. The entire piece is pristine and microscopically clean. Unsigned, the back has the original fine working safety clasp. If you look at this brooch under a magnifying glass, some very light microscopic signs of light handling can be detected, commensurate with age, no wear.
