Made in the fabulous 1950s, these extremely rare to find black glass clip earrings hail from an era when buttons were everything but plastic. The earrings are not real buttons, but they were made in the same way buttons were made. They are molded and faceted black glass with a high polish. The buttons are thick and concave at the center with radiating pinwheel machined bevels. The perimeter is trimmed in a double row of metallic gold paint. Because of the way the earrings are beveled, and concave, the prisms create a highly reflective surface....something you rarely see on old buttons or earrings of any kind. The earrings are medium large in size, slightly larger than a US quarter at 1 1/16" or 26 mm wide. The glass is 5 mm thick. The silver metal clips are the slender style that are comfortable to wear. Unsigned, both earrings are in spectacular like new condition with no scratches or chips. The earrings are microscopically clean. There is some light wear to the gold paint, not really visible to the naked eye.Comes gift wrapped and shipped in a new presentation jewelry box.
