Made in the 1950's, it is very uncommon to find ANY eccentric vintage copper enamel cufflinks from the Mid Century Modern period, and with the matching tie clasp. This set is an impressionistic take on the well known Comedy/Tragedy motif, accomplished in black, white, and metallic gold swirled enamels. The designs are rather large, slightly large than a US quarter or 1 1/4" tall x 1" wide or 32 mm x 25 mm.The cufflinks are not signed but Im about 90% certain this set was made by Inga Carlson based on the style of the copper enamel designs and the thickness of the solid German copper she used. The copper enamel is in perfect like new condition even under high magnification. There are no chips, cracks, scuffs, scratches, or crazing. All pieces retain their original glossy finish. The copper backs are clean and the copper retains a slightly darkened patina from age with minor signs of gentle handling.Comes shipped in a new luxury presentation cufflink box as pictured.* Inga Carlson was a lady of Finnish descent and in the 1950s and 1960s, she was a one woman powerhouse who made an incredible amount of copper enamel jewelry for just one lady. Not much is known about her or her business, but she was from New England and most of her jewelry was made in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. She showed her copper enamel jewelry at countless art shows and was friends with many other jewelry designers, including Martha Kluz. This little bit of information was hard to come by and came to me from a relative of Ingas.
