This extravagant watermelon rivoli crystal brooch was made by Sherman in Canada sometime in the 1950-1960 era.I remember how hard it was to get these Sherman pieces in the US back then. Women would clammer around jewelry counters in department stores, drooling all over the magnificent rivolis and they were usually sold out within a week. This razzle dazzle stacked flower has tourmaline-like watermelon rivoli crystals in Emerald and Peridot that reflect a peacock rainbows of color. The center of the design has a flower cut Rivoli crystal set with a Peridot rhinestone head pin. Each crystal is set securely with individual brass head pins in drilled holes in the crystals. The flower is medium in size at 1 5/8" wide or 4.2 cm. Each crystal is about 10 mm. Look at the back of the pin, and you can see how all of the crystals are flashed with hot pink-gold mirror backs. You can examine this pin closely under a loupe and not only will you find the entire pin clean and pristine, but all of the facets and edges are sharp with no flea bites, chips, or cracks. I sincerely doubt the pin has ever been worn. The back of the pin is finished in dimpled metallic gold metal and the original fine working safety clasp is in place. The pin is not signed however the construction and types of crystals indicate it was most likely made by Sherman.
