Made in the 1940-1950 era, this very ornate 3 nesting box set of round bamboo baskets are works of exemplary craftsmanship. This is a VERY rare set to find. Nesting boxes of this quality that are around 70-80 years old are very hard to find today. The baskets are a triple layered designs with swirl patterns at the centers of the lids. The caning is a dark cinnamon shade with some black trim on the lids. This set was not made in China. It was made in the Philippines and it was not a mass produced export. It was brought to the US from a US marine who served in the south pacific during the Korean War.The quality of these bamboo baskets far exceeds anything that was ever made in China. This 3 piece set is in pristine clean like new condition with no imperfections or flaws and has never been used. The largest box is very slightly a lighter, less glossy shade as it is the only box that has been exposed to light. The baskets are not signed. The largest box is about 7" wide x 5" tall. The medium box is about 5" wide x 3 1/2" tall. The smallest box is about 4" wide x 2 3/4" tall.As the baskets are hand made, Please note that the lids only go on one way by matching the bands on the lid to the bands on the bottoms. Yes, there are bands on the bamboo that show you how to line up the lid to the bottom to match the way the canes were wrapped. An interesting pre-planned design.
